Joshua 10: 1-15: Verse 12 to 14 say:
12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on[b] its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!
Something that defies physics, defies all laws of our known Universe! The sun stopping in the sky. Its not the only time in the Bible something like this happens, but is surely one of the most amazing claims of the Bible. Written as a celebratory, country song, it is in the style of remembering. Something unheard of, never before or since. But God is! Outside time and space, omnipotent, pure essence, not bound by the Laws of a universe He created. We could go into a thread about intelligent design, evolution, and all that stuff which would be rich, and deep, but that's not really what this is about...
I just love the image of Israel, out numbered and underdogs, faithfully going into battle to do God's will, to live out His promise, with God fighting so visibly, impossibly, with them and for them. What an image! Lord, give me faith. Amen.
lyrics
We heard the, heard the word
Please come quickly
We heard the word come save us now
Armies, Armies, five have joined forces
Save us, save us before we die
Do not, do not, do not be afraid I have
Given them into your hands
Not one, of them will be able to stand up
Not one, can stand against you
Oh Sun Stand Still up in the Sky
Oh moon, won’t you follow one full day behind
This nation has come to settle this score
Never ever been a day like this day before
Marching, Marching, Marching through the night
Marching, marching, all night long
We took them, took them, took them with the sunrise
Thrown into confusion
Running, running, running down the road
Follow as they run away
Throwing hailstones down upon them
Giant hailstones from the sky
Oh Sun Stand Still up in the Sky
Oh moon, won’t you follow one full day behind
This nation has come to settle this score
Never ever been a day like this day before
Marching, Marching, Marching through the night
Marching, marching, all night long
We took them, took them, took them with the sunrise
Thrown into confusion
Running, running, running down the road
Follow as they run away
Throwing hailstones down upon them
Giant hailstones from the sky
Oh Sun Stand Still up in the Sky
Oh moon, won’t you follow one full day behind
This nation has come to settle this score
Never ever been a day like this day before
