Joshua 24: 1-28
This is really a love song, from God to us, though the words are borrowed from Joshua as he renews the covenant again between God and His people. Joshua links the recent history of Israel with the fathers, reminding them of Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Esau, Moses and Aaron and the captivity in Egypt. He reminds them what God has done for them, and calls them to Holiness, calls them to serve God alone. Then, as at the beginning of the book, he sets up a stone as a reminder of this covenant, this agreement: 'The witness stone'.
Though I have replaced stone with song, the sentiment is the same. I need reminding often how much God loves me, but that He doesn't need my love, that I have to remember what He has done for me in my life. We all have free choice, choice to choose our path, blessings or curses, life or death. He just wants us to choose Him... enough to die for us.
lyrics
This song will be a witness, to the love that you spoke
I have heard all your words; they are cut into my heart
This song will be a witness to the vows that you made
Promises that are carved into this day
Cos I would give you the Hills and I would pour you the seas
I would stretch out the Sky and now I’m down on my knees
And I’d do it all again but I don’t need your love
I just want you to choose, to know that you’re mine
This song will be a witness to the days of your life
Every day as a gift, everyone just like the first
This song will be a witness to the life, all the days
We can have; everyone just like the first
Cos I don’t need your love, I just want you to choose
Not live out a lie, with thorns in your eyes
And the snares and the traps make a whip for your back
I just want you to choose, to know that you’re mine
And all the days will turn to years
And all the laughter all the tears
I will always be there by your side
And when the time is come
I will to be the one to close your eyes
This song will be a witness, to the love that you spoke
I have heard all your words; they are cut into my heart
This song will be a witness to the days of your life
I'll be there by your side
And when the time is come
I'll be the one to close your eyes
